What is Home?
A stunning new public artwork, Speaking of Home, deftly explores this critical question within the stories of contemporary immigrants who now call Minnesota home, by artist Nancy Ann Coyne.
Designed for the Twin Cities’ iconic skyways—miles of elevated glass bridges—larger than life translucent images of the émigrés’ own family photos gaze out of four bridges over thousands of passersby up above, and on the streets below. The monumental 600-ft. installation can be seen at the intersections of 6th and Minnesota streets in downtown Saint Paul.
In an unprecedented era of national political debate about immigration, Speaking of Home creates an episodic narrative of immigrant experiences that questions our assumptions about what “home” really means.
Located at the four skyway bridges surrounding 6th & Minnesota Streets
Speaking of Home can be experienced from September 5, 2017 through June 30th, 2019. For easy access, enter the skyway system and follow the signs to one of the four buildings that anchor the installation: Alliance Bank, Securian Center, Town Square, and US Bank Center. Skyway hours are 6:00 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Saturday. Public transit and many parking options are available. SCHOOL AND GROUP TOURS
